Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities
Ohioans with disabilities can access customized, individual services and support available in all 88 counties including: Job search and job placement assistance; referral services; Vocational counseling and training; Educational guidance; Transportation services; Occupational tools and equipment; Personal attendant services (reader, interpreter, etc.); and Employer Services.
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP)
The Department of Defense TAP provides active component service members and qualifying spouses pre-separation counseling, employment search assistance, interactive workshops and veterans benefits briefings.
Employment Vocation Rehabilitation (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs)
The federal Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Program services include, but are not limited to, counseling, training, education and job placement assistance. These services require a VA service connected disability rating.

Ohio GI Promise
The Ohio GI Promise allows qualified veterans and their dependents, from anywhere in the country to skip the 12-month residency requirement and attend University System of Ohio schools at in-state tuition rates encouraging veterans from across the country to bring their families, leadership, motivation and maturity to Ohio's colleges and universities.
Ohio War Orphans Scholarship
The Ohio War Orphans Scholarship Program awards tuition assistance to the children of deceased or severely disabled Ohio veterans who served in the armed forces during a period of declared war or conflict.
Ohio College Opportunity Grant
The Ohio College Opportunity Grant provides grant money to Ohio residents who demonstrate financial need who are enrolled at Ohio public university main campuses, Ohio private, non-profit colleges or universities, and Ohio private, for-profit institutions.
Ohio Department of Education
The Ohio Department of Education waives an initial Ohio educator license, permit or certificate including renewal fees for veterans, spouses and current service members of all branches of the United States Armed Forces.
Joint Service Transcript
If you are prior Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, or Navy or do not have access to a Common Access Card (CAC) reader, you can register for a JST account to receive your military transcript.

County Veterans Service Office Resources
The best way to get connected to various veterans benefits is to visit your local County Veterans Service Office, which offers numerous resources including emergency financial assistance, searching for military records, honors and awards, updating your discharge, and many other veteran benefits.
Home Energy Assistance Program
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides eligible Ohioans assistance in paying their home energy bills.
Veterans Administration Home Loans
VA home loans allow eligible veterans and service members to purchase a home. Certain surviving spouses may also be eligible.
Ohio Housing Finance Agency
Through Ohio Housing Finance Agency's Ohio Heroes product, Ohio's veterans and service members can receive all the benefits of the First-Time Home buyer program at an interest rate up to .25% lower than traditional rates.
Ohio Department of Taxation – Military Site
State and federal income tax laws contain special provisions for members of the military and their families including the Ohio Veterans Bonus, tax exemptions for nonresident military servicemembers and spouses, income tax exemptions for military pay earned outside of Ohio, and income tax exemptions from military retirement pay.
Veteran Disability Compensation
Military veterans with a service-related disability may qualify for over $3,000 in tax-free monthly benefits. These benefits are paid to veterans who have injuries or diseases that happened while on active duty, or were made worse by active military service.
Pension
If you are a wartime veteran with a limited income and you are no longer able to work, you may qualify for a veterans disability pension or the veterans pension for veterans 65 or older.

Smart Money Choices is a free, half-day financial planning conference for all Ohioans, presented by the Ohio Treasurer’s office, and supported by a variety of statewide and regional partners.

Ohio's Bureau of Motor Vehicles has many military/veteran license plates available to eligible veterans.
Transportation Assistance
Many of the County Veterans Service Offices in Ohio offer free transportation to local VA facilities. Further information can be obtained by contacting your local County Veterans Services Offices.
Healthcare
The Veterans Administration provides a health care coverage plan for veterans, with access to military-provided medical care facilities.
The Ohio Attorney General Patriot Program
Volunteers from the Attorney General's Office provide some free legal services for military personnel and their families for particular issues, including exercising your rights under the service members’ Civil Relief Act, drafting wills, including living wills and delegating power of attorney.
Veterans Group Life Insurance
Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI) is a life insurance program which allows service members to convert their Service members Group Life Insurance (SGLI) coverage to renewable term insurance.
Service-Disabled Veterans Insurance
Veterans who are granted a service-connected disability but are otherwise in good health may apply to the VA for up to $10,000 life insurance coverage.
Memorial and Burial Benefits
The Veterans Administration provides a wide range of burial and memorial benefits ranging from Military Funeral Honors to burial reimbursement.
