Pennie Graham is an Air Force Veteran that was referred to me by the OhioMeansJob Center - Wayne County after attending an Unemployment Compensation Reemployment Services session (UCRS).
Pennie had been laid-off from a Team Leader position with J.M. Smucker Company where she had worked for 16 years and was finding it difficult to re-enter the job market. I referred her to the Wayne County Veterans Services Office to provide short-term financial assistance to ensure that Pennie was able to make her rent payments, while we worked together to develop a plan to get her employed. We reviewed her career goals and looked for ways to match her previous experience to related positions with companies in the area.
Pennie and I worked together to create a strong and flexible resume that could be revised based on her target job openings. While looking for a career position, we were able to coordinate with Goodwill Industries to get Pennie employed in a "stop-gap" position as an Assistant Manager at the local Goodwill store. This helped her get back to self-sufficiency with some income while she continued her search for a better career opportunity.
We found a position with Akron-Brass ln Wooster, OH that Pennie was very interested in applying to. Pennie and I worked to target her application to the position and get her scheduled for an interview. Pennie impressed the company in the interview and was offered an entry level position as a General Laborer in their Wooster facility.
Pennie is now fully employed with Akron-Brass earning a great wage with benefits and career potential.
