Target your Resume: Veteran Amstutz’s Story

Having completed a combat tour of lraq in 2009 and upon returning home, Veteran Amstutz sought employment and was able to obtain several temporary opportunities. Then in 2011, he decided to enroll in college to purse an education in personal computers. After running out of resources to pay for education, a Veteran Amstutz was unable to obtain suitable employment on his own. Turning to a trusted resource, Veteran Amstutz came to OhioMeansJobs Allen County where he was identified as being a Veteran with barriers to employment and was referred to DVOPS Rob Cornett for assistance.

In January 2014, Veteran Amstutz and DVOPS Rob Cornett met and completed an assessment that identified several barriers to employment that included problems with his resume, job interviewing, job search methods, and overcoming employer objections. Veteran Amstutz began working on a targeted resume and improving his job interviewing skills. This led to a job offer from Ford Motor Company for a Production Worker position with a starting wage of $15.78 an hour and full benefits after a 90 day probationary period.

Veteran Amstutz credits his success to the assistance he received from OhioMeansJobs Allen County staff and DVOPS Rob Cornett. He added that he believes he wouldn't have had the opportunity to work for the number one car company in America had it not been for a DVOPS who advocated for his hiring and prepared him for the challenges of today's job search.
