Homeless Female Veteran Lands Back on Her Feet with Federal Employment

Cynthia, a disabled veteran who served just over four years in the U.S. Navy as a draftsman, visited the OhioMeansJobs Cleveland - Cuyahoga center in search of help finding employment. She was referred to a Dee, a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist. Cynthia was homeless and in need of food, clothing and hygiene assistance. Dee referred Cynthia to Veterans & Family First for housing assistance where she was awarded a housing voucher. Cynthia secured housing and is now living comfortably in her hew home.

Dee also referred Cynthia to the Veteran Service Commission and dress for Success where she received food, clothing, hygiene assistance and interview clothing, respectively. After overcoming these initial barriers to employment, Dee began helping Cynthia find employment. After several months of dedicated job search, Cynthia secured full-time employment with the local Veterans Affairs hospital as a voucher examiner, making $35,000 per year with benefits.
