Workforce reentry after an illness: Terry Greenwald

Terry Greenwald is a service connected disabled Veteran that was referred to me by the WIS staff at the OhioMeansJobs Center in Ashland County. Terry had been having some serious health problems and was looking for information on the VA Healthcare system.

I referred him to the Ashland County Veterans for assistance in completing an application in completing an application for healthcare benefits. During this time, Terry’s health deteriorated and caused him to take several extended periods of absence from his work. His employer allowed him to take leave, but Mr. Greenwald decided it would be best to resign from his position, so he could focus on getting well. Terry was eventually hospitalized with the VA and entered an extended treatment program to overcome his health issues.

After his recovery, Terry was eager to go back to work. We revamped his resume and brushed up on his interviewing skills. Mr. Greenwald had worked as a welder for his entire career and was interested in staying with in that career filed, but he was hoping to find a position as a machine welder operator that would be a bit less physically demanding than the hands-on work he had done in the past. We researched several area manufacturing companies that Terry had an interest in and began submitting applications.

Terry was invited to interview with JLG and was able to describe his skills and experiences and impress the interviewers enough to offer him a position. Terry has started working as a Welding Machine Operator at JLG in Orrville and is very happy in his new position and fells that JLG is a great company to work for.
